CBC and BBC World Service announced Wednesday their latest collaboration — a new true crime podcast, The Con: Kaitlyn’s Baby, launching Jan. 14.
Part of the The Con podcast strand exploring international scam stories, Kaitlyn’s Baby follows a pregnant young woman in crisis who “takes dozens of birth workers through a series of disasters — rape, baby loss, and even a coma,” explains a CBC press release. “One by one, the doulas struggle to support her, to grieve with her, and even to save her life as they are led down a devastating path. Then the truth comes out — it’s all lies.”
As it becomes clear that nothing is as it seems, the question becomes: Who is Kaitlyn Braun, and what is the truth behind her web of lies? Kaitlyn’s Baby explores what led this promising young social worker down this path, and whether she can be held accountable for her actions.
The Con: Kaitlyn’s Baby is hosted by Canadian writer and producer Sarah Treleaven, the co-host of iHeartRadio’s Unrestorable podcast and the host and producer of USG Audio’s The Followers: Madness of Two.
All six episodes of Kaitlyn’s Baby will be available as a “boxset” on CBC True Crime Premium from Jan. 14. Beginning that day, episodes will also be released weekly on most other podcast apps and platforms, CBC said.
The Con podcast strand also includes Love, Janessa (launched in January 2023 and hosted by journalist Hannah Ajala), which delves into the murky world of online romance scams to find adult entertainment star Janessa Brazil whose stolen images are being used as part of global catfishing schemes.
