CBC announces fall slate of podcasts

[shared_counts]

CBC on Tuesday launched its new fall slate of original podcasts, including new additions to its investigative series Uncover as well as an exploration of the Norval Morrisseau art fraud case.

The newest podcast in the Uncover series is Dirtbag Climber, a five-episode investigation by reporter Steven Chua into the unsolved murder of “Jesse James”, a “dirtbag” rock climber found dead in Squamish, B.C. in 2017. As he dives into the case, Chua tracks a stranger-than-fiction story crisscrossing North America, unveiling a stunning portrait of an enigmatic con artist on the run from his past. The first episode of Dirtbag Climber is available to listen to now.

Later this fall, Uncover will launch Allison After NXIVM, the exclusive story behind the NXIVM cult as told by former Smallville actress and high-ranking member Allison Mack. Hosted by Natalie Robehmed, this six-episode podcast traces Mack’s astonishing path from Smallville fame to NXIVM’s inner circle and her effort to rebuild a life following her release from prison. Launching Nov. 10, Allison After NXIVM features raw interviews and revealing conversations with those who knew Mack before, during and after NXIVM, and “dives deep into the gray zones of influence, accountability, and redemption,” a CBC press release says.

Launching Oct. 15, Forged is a six-episode podcast from CBC and ABC in Australia that tells the unfolding story of legendary Indigenous artist Norval Morrisseau, known as the “Picasso of the North”, and what is believed to be the largest art crime fraud in the world. After a rock star gets a tip about the authenticity of his Morrisseau painting, he discovers a sinister underworld with thousands of forged paintings, multiple fraud rings, millions of dollars in profits, and even a suspected murder. Forged is hosted by Adrian Stimson, an artist from the Siksika Nation, who travels from Thunder Bay to the Northern Territory of Australia to explore the art fraud case.

Other CBC podcasts premiering this fall include: See You in Court (Sept. 16), a 12-episode dive into some of the messiest and most memorable courtroom battles that shaped how Canadians live today; Season 4 of Love Me (Oct. 6), celebrating the beauty and chaos of human connections, hosted by Lu Olkowski; the latest in the Understood anthology, The Making of Musk (Oct. 7), author Jacob Silverman’s four-episode exploration of the little-known South African origin story of the world’s richest man, Elon Musk; and The Devil You Know, With Sarah Marshall (Oct. 20), an eight-part examination of the “Satanic Panic” of the 1980s and ʼ90s, as told by believers, skeptics, bystanders and the wrongfully convicted.

CBC’s podcast collection can be found on CBC Listen and everywhere podcasts are available. Select tiles can also be streamed on YouTube.
