TORONTO – CBC announced a two-year broadcast and multimedia agreement with the International Skating Union (ISU) today that will cover the broadcast and multimedia airing of high profile events like the 2008 ISU World Figure Skating Championships, the 2009 ISU World Figure Skating Championships and the 2009 ISU Four Continents Figure Skating Championships.
CBC kicks off its new broadcast agreement on Tuesday, March 18, with coverage of the 2008 ISU World Figure Skating Championships from Gothenburg, Sweden on both CBC Television and CBC Country Canada. Viewers will also be able to watch the 2008 ISU World Figure Skating Championships when and where they want to, with live and on-demand coverage at cbcsports.ca.
“This agreement represents CBC’s commitment to broadcasting the best skating events in the world – events that otherwise would not have been available to Canadians,” said Scott Moore, executive director, CBC Sports, in the press release. “We are thrilled that our viewers will be able to follow Canada’s athletes on CBC as they continue to compete and prepare for the Olympic Games in Vancouver.”
Other highlights of the agreement include coverage of a 2008 Short Track Speed Skating World Cup event and the 2009 ISU World Single Distances Speed Skating Championships (Long Track). Those events, and the 2009 ISU Four Continents Figure Skating Championships, will be held in Vancouver and will serve as important test events for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.
