CBC adds two more true-crime podcasts to spring lineup

TORONTO — Coinciding with the launch of its A Death in Cryptoland podcast today, CBC Podcasts announced it is adding two more true-crime offerings to its lineup this spring.

The Next Call is a new investigative series from the creators of the popular Someone Knows Something podcast. Exploring unsolved cases in a pandemic-restricted world, host David Ridgen uncovers new information in each case through phone and video calls with victims’ family members, the police and even potential suspects. The first case looks into the disappearance of 15-year-old Melanie Ethier who vanished without a trace in the early morning on Sunday, September 29, 1996. The Next Call (five episodes) premieres Wednesday, June 9.

The Village: Season Two searches for answers in the unsolved deaths of two transgender women in Toronto’s queer community. Host Justin Ling returns to explore the stories of Alloura Wells and Cassandra Do whose deaths remain unexplained. Following the award-winning first season of The Village, which delved into cases of missing and murdered men in Toronto’s gay community dating back to the 1970s, season two reveals new details about these women’s lives, the systems that failed them and a police investigation gone wrong. The Village: Season Two (five episodes) premieres Wednesday, June 23.
