BANFF – CBC has promoted Sally Catto to general manager of programming for CBC Television, the national broadcaster announced Monday from the Banff World Media Festival.  Her appointment is effective immediately.

Catto (pictured) returned to CBC from the independent sector two years ago as executive director, commissioned & scripted programming where she's been overseeing drama, comedy, children's and certain documentary programming.  Her history at CBC dates back to 2001 when she was executive in charge of production, drama before taking on subsequent positions as creative head, drama and executive director, arts & entertainment.  Prior to her time at CBC, Catto was a literary agent for film and television, and practiced law at both Stikeman Elliott and Goodmans.

CBC said an extensive international search was conducted over several months.

"The breadth of candidates we interviewed was most impressive but after a thorough search and careful consideration, I couldn't be more pleased to appoint Sally to the role”, said Heather Conway, executive-vice president, CBC English Services, in the announcement.  “Among her colleagues at CBC, our external partners, and within the production community, Sally is as respected as she is well liked. Her creative sensibilities are highly regarded and her strong business focus will undoubtedly serve her well in this new position."
