BANFF and TORONTO – Watch for coverage of the Banff World Television Festival 2006 in Banff, Alberta and The Canadian Telecom Summit in Toronto next week as Cartt.ca provides in-person coverage from both important events.
In Banff, Cartt.ca will plug into the television industry for a look at global content developments. We will attend the lauded after-sessions, follow key announcements and trends; and interview “the personalities” within the industry.
This year’s Banff World Television Festival, June 11-14, 2006 is being held at the Fairmount Banff Springs in Banff, Alberta. It opens with a day-long session led by Kit Readman and Micki Rogers on how to pitch an idea, and closes with Rick Mercer’s town hall meeting on the landscape of Canadian television.
And it looks as though the CRTC will make its long-awaited TV policy review during the festival, a policy announcement that was first reported back in February by Cartt.ca.
The four-day conference includes sessions/speeches by Oscar®-winner Paul Haggis ("Crash"); Howard Davine, (Touchstone Television; "Desperate Housewives," "Lost"); Gary Carter (FremantleMedia) and Nick Fraser of the BBC’s "Storyville. Master classes include time with Paul Scheuring ("Prison Break"), David Shore ("House") Richard J. Lewis ("CSI"), Neil Docherty ("the fifth estate"), and Ali LeRoi ("Everybody Hates Chris").
The three-day Canadian Telecom Summit, June 12-14 is about the other essential side of the industry – distribution because as we all know, telecom (wired or wireless) is now about content distribution just as much as it is about telephone calls. Speakers at this event include Videotron CEO Robert Depatie, Industry Minister Maxime Bernier, CRTC Chairman Charles Dalfen, BCE CEO Michael Sabia and Telus CEO Darren Entwistle, among others.
The 2006 Canadian Telecom Summit is Canada’s pre-eminent gathering of the telecommunications industry and those with vested interests in its welfare. Attracting the senior-most professionals from around the globe, the Summit will provide a forum for the broad cross-section of stakeholders to exchange views, share ideas, challenge assumptions and plan for the future.
Both events are key gatherings for the cable, radio, television and telecom industries and if you can’t be there, surf over to cartt.ca throughout next week for the most timely, thorough reporting for professionals in this market.
