Native Communications Society of the NWT is hiring a Broadcast Technologist to support our radio station, CKLB Radio 101.9 FM. At CKLB Radio, we are the Voice of Denendeh. Our mission is to revitalize, strengthen and preserve our Aboriginal cultures through radio and television communications technology, and new mediums as developed. We provide quality Aboriginal programming to educate, inform, entertain and raise awareness of our cultures, languages, music, values and beliefs.

We are currently seeking a Broadcast Technician to maintain and repair all aspects of the radio station’s technical operations including radio automation, computer systems, studio, and satellite receive/FM transmitter equipment. The successful candidate will be based in Yellowknife and may make occasional trips to one of the re-broadcast transmitters spread throughout the NWT.

Responsibilities:

  • Guide the station’s technology.
  • Perform all aspects of hardware and software maintenance in a FM radio station.
  • Develop studio and transmitter projects.
  • Develop and maintain engineering dept. records and drawings.
  • Maintain stock for engineering parts and supplies.
  • Collaborate and provide IT support with local and remote employees
  • Assist with technical requirements for remote broadcasts.

Qualifications:

  • The position typically requires a Broadcast Technology diploma or equivalent.
  • Class 5 driver’s license
  • Minimum 1-year experience preferred in Radio Engineering or Broadcast Technology
  • Self motivated and detail oriented.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge and experience with AM/ FM transmission systems.
  • Knowledge and experience with AoIP systems. Experience with LAWO systems is an asset.
  • Knowledge and experience with radio automation system. Experience with ENCO systems is an asset.
  • Knowledge and experience with computer hardware, software and Local Area Networks.
  • Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate experience, aptitude or interest in audio.
  • On-site training will be available.
