SAINT JOHN – A new service aimed at giving parents the ability to better manage their children’s mobile phone was launched today by Bell Aliant.
Cellular Manager lets parents stay connected with their kids and allows them to set boundaries that work with their individual situations, says the company’s press release. "It also gives parents an innovative way to teach kids about the privilege of using a cellular phone – and learning about responsible cellular use at an early age," it reads.
“Parents want the ability to stay connected with their children as they become more mobile. They also want peace of mind knowing they can maintain control of their child’s wireless usage and spending,” said Shirley Fullerton, director consumer marketing. “With Cellular Manager, we’re giving them that flexibility and offering a service that, we hope helps parents teach children about responsible cellular phone use from an early age."
Parents can pick specific times when the phone is to be used and can also choose which phone numbers are to be called or received.
Simple and easy-to-update, parents can program different rules for each cellular phone. Lists such as the “Always Allowed List” means that numbers for parents, caregivers or even emergency services can always be reached, even during restricted calling periods or when usage limits are exceeded. And there’s even a “Never Allowed List” to restrict incoming and outgoing calls based on the phone number.
The service is being offered for $4.95 per month and can be used with any Aliant cellular phone.
