CanWest to again broadcast Aboriginal Achievement Awards


TORONTO – Global Television will broadcast the 2008 Aboriginal Achievement Awards for the third consecutive year, it was announced Thursday. Fourteen people will be recognized for their outstanding career contributions as Aboriginal Canadians at the awards ceremony, which in its 15th year will take place in Toronto on March 7.

The gala will be broadcast on Saturday, March 22 at 8 p.m. EST on Global, followed by a repeat broadcast on APTN on April 5 at 8 p.m. EST.

“We’re proud to return as the exclusive broadcaster alongside APTN, to showcase the outstanding achievements within the aboriginal communities,” said Christine Shipton, SVP of Drama and Factual Content at Canwest Broadcasting.

Hosted by actress, Larissa Tobacco (2006 MuchMusic VJ Search, “Eye of the Beast”), the awards ceremony will feature over 20 musical talents, including Andrea Menard, Doug “Plex” Bedard, David Maracle, Tamara Podemski, Lucie Idlout, Digging Roots, Tinsel Korey, 5th Generation, Hellnback, Jana and Derek Miller.
