CanWest reorganizes broadcast marketing team

TORONTO – CanWest MediaWorks is reorganizing its team that markets its broadcasting properties.

As of Thursday, there will be four marketing groups. The group that markets Global will be based in Toronto, CH will be in Calgary, news will be in Vancouver, and specialty will be in Winnipeg. An expanded media buying and planning group has been created in Toronto.

Each group will market their brand nationally, and group leaders will report to Walter Levitt, Senior Vice President of Broadcast Marketing for CanWest MediaWorks.

“By focusing our attention on a brand basis, CanWest MediaWorks will achieve the country’s leadership position in broadcast marketing. This strategic approach will allow us to concentrate on refining and defining our enviable broadcast brands and optimize all our internal media resources,” says Levitt.

The change has been in evolution since at least a year ago, when Kathleen Dore, CanWest’s president of television and radio, joined the company. “This is exactly what we’ve been working towards in marketing since I started here at CanWest MediaWorks,” says Dore. “We are a company with incredible media assets and wonderful talent. By building brand-specific teams across the country, we become a more focused organization, and our properties will be more clearly distinguished in the marketplace.”
