CanWest, Air Canada, sending Albertans to Broadway


CALGARY – CanWest MediaWorks and Air Canada have joined forces on an exclusive promotion to launch a new daily non-stop flight from Calgary to New York.

The promotion, entitled ‘Broadway Getaway’, will use the various CanWest newspaper, television and interactive assets in Calgary and Edmonton to target consumers.

Air Canada’s new daily service will start March 1st, and is the only daily non-stop flight available from Calgary to New York. “With the second highest concentration of head offices in Canada, the route expansion is in direct response to the growing number of Calgarians looking for daily non-stop flights to New York,” says the press release.

"There is a demand for this route and what better way to let travelers know that Air Canada has responded to consumers’ needs by way of a targeted consumer promotion," said Nathalie Lajoie director, tactical services, Marketel Communications Inc., Air Canada’s advertising agency. "Air Canada’s success with the last two partnerships exceeded our expectations and the logical step was to go back for more. CanWest continues to provide creative solutions in advertising and promotions for Air Canada and is the industry leader in multi-platform integrated media solutions."

The new campaign will launch on February 6, 2006. The multi-platform campaign will combine advertising on canada.com and Global TV Morning News in the Calgary market. The ads which will run in Calgary and Edmonton will promote the new Air Canada daily non-stop flights from Calgary to New York, driving consumers to visit www.aircanada.com/ny to register for a chance to win one of six Broadway Getaway Packages to New York including airfare, hotel and tickets to a Broadway show.
