Canadians have ‘weathered’ it all: The Weather Network marks 25 years with top 25 storms

OAKVILLE, ON – To mark its 25th anniversary, The Weather Network is sharing its top weather stories that have occurred in Canada since the channel first began broadcasting in 1989.

From record-breaking temperatures to wild storms, The Weather Network has reported all kinds of weather and kept Canadians up-to-date with the information they need to plan their day.  The Weather Network and its French counterpart MétéoMédia are Canada's leading multi-platform weather information service, reaching more than 11 million Canadian households.

With its vast size, varied geography and seven climate zones, Canada experiences many different types of weather conditions throughout the year, and at times, extreme weather events such as flooding, ice storms, hail, tornadoes and hurricanes. 

Below is The Weather Network’s list of the top 25 storms in Canada over the past 25 years. Criteria for selection included the degree of financial/insurance cost incurred, loss of life or personal injury and the meteorological significance of the storm.
