Canadians go on-demand, on-line for World Cup, says Rogers

TORONTO – Canadians audiences can’t get enough of the extensive coverage of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, it seems.

With CBC recording impressive audience figures for its television coverage, Rogers said that Canadians across the country are also turning to their laptops, home computers and mobile devices to catch the games.

Registration for its web-based TV service Rogers On Demand Online (RODO) has risen by more than 60% since the start of the World Cup, and thousands of fans have downloaded the Rogers On Demand Mobile app to catch the action on their smart phones – iPhone customers are apparently leading the charge with 60% of all Rogers FIFA downloads.

As the only web destination to offer live games in four languages (English, French, Italian and Spanish), Rogers said that to date, more than 15% of all live-streamed matches on RODO have been viewed in a language other than English.
