TORONTO – Canadians believe that faster network speeds, smaller laptops, and purchases over their wireless device will be part of their future in 2012 and beyond, according to a new survey commissioned by Rogers Communications.
The survey, conducted by Vision Critical earlier this month among more than 1,000 adult Canadian smart phone or tablet users, is the first of the Rogers Innovation Report which seeks to explore Canadians' habits and views on technological innovations.
According to those surveyed, the top technology predictions include:
– Smaller and lighter laptops: 85% of respondents believe that laptops will continue to get smaller and lighter and fit into a handbag;
– Faster network speeds: 83% said that faster networks are on their way;
– Bulging back pocket be gone: 79% expect that more people will use their smart phones to make purchases over the next few years;
– Turn on the lights with your smart phone: 82% believe that they will soon be able to control home systems such as heat, air conditioning, lights and security system through their mobile device;
– Living in the cloud: 81% believe that they will be able to access their movies, photos and documents anywhere virtually.
– Books are here to stay: survey participants still believe in printed books, with just 37% believing that e-readers and tablets will replace printed books.
"The Rogers Innovation Report shows that technology is making smart phone and tablet users' lives easier and better and they expect that these advances will continue," said Upinder Saini, Rogers’ VP of product development, in the report’s news release. "Now that they've seen all that technology can do to improve their lives, they crave more."
