TORONTO – Canadian consumers are adopting a multiple of competing technologies to personalize their TV viewing experience, according to the Personal TV: Anytime, Anywhere a Media Technology Monitor (MTM) syndicated report released Wednesday by BBM.
The report also found:
• Despite the proclamation that personal video recorders (PVRs) may bring an end to TV as it is today, only a fraction of Canadian homes have them and few intend to buy one.
• The adoption of DVD recorders is nearly three times higher than the PVR, but the rate of recording TV programs resembles a VCR rather than a PVR.
• iPod/MPD players have been quickly adopted, but are not being used primarily to watch video.
• Content availability is driving video-on-demand (VOD) use, particularly in Canada’s French-language market.
• Internet video growth has jumped significantly in the last year among adults.
MTM is a high-quality syndicated survey based on interviews with 12,000 Canadian adults (6,000 Anglophone and 6,000 Francophone) that provides information on consumer trends in television, radio, Internet, and other emerging technologies.
