Canadian TV viewership grew everywhere this winter/spring

TORONTO — Canadians watched more TV this winter/spring season compared to last year, with marked increases in daytime and evening viewing by 18- to 34-year-olds, says a new report from marketing and research association thinktv.

Based on Numeris PPM data, thinktv’s Winter/Spring TV Viewing Report provides insight into viewership from the beginning of January to the end of May, and therefore shows the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on Canadians’ TV viewing.

Overall viewing of both Canadian conventional TV and specialty TV grew across all dayparts, with average minute audience (AMA) data showing a significant increase for specialty channels when sports networks were excluded from the measurement.

The top shows for adults 25-54 on conventional TV were Survivor (English) and La Voix (French), and on specialty, Star Trek: Picard (English) and L’amour est dans le pré (French).
