Canadian Satellite Radio studio in Toronto

TORONTO – A street-front studio will be the national base for Canadian Satellite Radio, the company announced today.

The company announced plans today to open its broadcast and performance studio at Avenue Road and Davenport Road in downtown Toronto.

CSR has commenced construction of the studio, located at 175 Avenue Road, as part of the company’s ongoing infrastructure build out across the country. Additionally, over the next few months, CSR will complete the hiring of its production team to create and broadcast original Canadian programming to the North American market. The Toronto facility will be the home base for its English channels, says the company’s press release today.

"We believe that Canadian Satellite Radio is an incredible opportunity to showcase our talent both across Canada and throughout North America," said Stephen Tapp, CSR’s president and COO, in the release. "We look forward to opening our flagship studio in this exciting part of Toronto. It will be the perfect venue from which Canadian Satellite Radio can showcase our world class Canadian artists."

Additionally, as announced previously, CSR will contribute $35 million for Canadian Talent Development (CTD) towards the growth of the Canadian music, comedy and entertainment industry; half of that amount will be granted to Canada’s francophone talent. Total spending on original Canadian programming is expected to be approximately $70 million throughout the first licensing term.

The company will be making future programming, partnership and studio announcements in the months ahead as preparations are made for the launch of the service this fall.
