MONTREAL – Canadian Satellite Radio today announced the support of the band Les Trois Accords and singer-songwriter Stefie Shock with a $100,000 contribution.
The money is part of CSR’s initiative to help develop Canadian francophone artists on the international scene.
"We have chosen Les Trois Accords and Stefie Shock because they represent the vibrant and flourishing Québec music scene, which is already making waves in Europe," said Stephen Tapp, president and COO of CSR. "We expect that these exceptional talents will have huge careers internationally, and we’re proud to be able to be there to support them as they grow."
In order to qualify for this type of support to help promote local talent abroad, artists must have achieved gold record status (i.e. 50,000 albums sold in Canada), a signed agreement with a record company in France and a planned European tour within the next 12 months. With this support, CSR proposes to contribute to the promotion of new Canadian talent to new audiences abroad.
"I’m currently promoting my album Le Decor in France as well as my upcoming tour there. Canadian Satellite Radio’s contribution comes at a very good time for me and I really appreciate this support," said Stefie Shock.
CSR plans to invest $35 million throughout its first licensing term to support the growth of the Canadian music and entertainment industry, from which 50% will be reserved for francophone artists, including nearly $7 million to key organizations, MusicACTION and ADISQ, as well as financial support for numerous other initiatives including European showcases and new national talent contests to support emerging artists.
On June 16, CSR, along with a CBC/Standard Broadcasting/SIRIUS Satellite Radio partnership and a CHUM/Astral group obtained subscription radio broadcasting licenses from the CRTC. CSR has partnered with XM Satellite Radio (XM), the top satellite radio service in the U.S. with more than 4.4 million subscribers.
