Canadian sat rad market is reversed

TORONTO – With an announcement today that XM Canada has 80,000 subscribers, the market is officially reversed, as compared to the U.S.

Down south, XM is the market leader with about 6.5 million subscribers as compared to 4.1 million or so for Sirius.

But almost a month ago, Sirius Canada announced it has passed the 100,000 subscriber mark (so maybe having Howard Stern is a factor after all).

XM Canada also announced today new partnerships with Toyota and Lexus, Canada’s fourth largest auto sales company in addition to Aeroplan, Canada’s biggest loyalty program, announced last week.

XM also installs receivers in vehicles from GM, Honda, Nissan and Subaru. "XM Canada now has contract relationships with auto manufacturers representing a majority of the 1.6 million new vehicles sold annually in Canada," says today’s press release.

"Toyota’s and Lexus’s alliance with XM Canada, coupled with our other auto relationships, gives us a potential of almost one million new radio installations per year when each manufacturer is in full production," said Stephen Tapp, president and COO of XM Canada.
