Canadian Retransmission Collective has new CEO

The board of the Canadian Retransmission Collective (CRC) announced Thursday that Lori Rosenberg is its new president and CEO.

She replaces Carol Cooper, who for 33 years led the organization founded in 1989 by the Canadian Media Producers Association (CMPA) and that collects royalties from cable and satellite retransmitters of copyrighted material and distributes them to Canadian and worldwide affiliates. The retransmission right emerged from the North American Free Trade Agreement.

Cooper will remain in an advisory capacity during the transition to the new leader, who has held senior management roles with broadcaster, broadcast distributor and member service organizations, according to a press release announcing the news.

“We’re delighted to have Lori leading us into a new era, particularly during this period of rapid industry change,” Stephen Ellis, co-founder and chair of the board of the CRC, said in the release.

The CRC says it has distributed over one-third of a billion dollars to an affiliate base including independent Canadian producers, program suppliers to PBS, English-language educational networks in Canada, and foreign producers and broadcasters outside of North America.
