The report estimates that 2025 saw a four-per-cent decline in the number of Canadian cable, satellite and telco TV subscribers, and forecasts five-per-cent declines on average through 2028. Furthermore, the report estimates 2025 Canadian cable, satellite and telco TV subscription revenue declined five per cent to $6.2 billion and forecasts similar declines through 2028.
As of year-end 2025, the Convergence Research Group estimates 48.5 per cent of Canadian households did not have a TV subscription with a cable, satellite or telco TV access provider, and is forecasting a rise to 57 per cent by year-end 2028.
In another newly released report, The Battle for the Canadian Couch Potato: Bundling, TV, Internet, Telephone, Wireless, March 2026, the Convergence Research Group forecasts 2026-2028 will continue to see robust residential broadband additions as well as sustained broadband revenue growth; however, not as robust as the 2019-2024 period.
The report also estimates 2025 Canadian wireless service (weighted) ARPU growth was negative and wireless service revenue grew slightly. The report forecasts continued ARPU pressure through 2028 and moderate annual subscriber additions.
