Canadian Music Week moves to May for 2014

TORONTO – The organizers of Canadian Music Week have announced that next year’s event will move from March to the warmer month of May and will be held May 6 to 10, 2014 at Toronto’s Eaton Centre Marriott Hotel.

According to CMW’s somewhat tongue-in-cheek announcement, the cold March weather was apparently the deciding factor for the date change: “After 31 years of freezing our asses off, we’re heeding your advice and moving to warmer forecasts.” Indeed, it did snow a couple of CMW days this year.

While some may welcome the change, others were concerned that moving CMW closer to the timing of the NXNE music industry event, also held in Toronto in June, may present conflicts for both musicians and attendees wanting to participate in both events. A comment posted on CMW’s Facebook page stated: “[sic] this is too close to nxne. working with artists that travel from all over the world, for many March works bc they can do sxsw and cmw in one trip then often come back in June for nxne. May? they may skip Canada all together.”
