MONTREAL – The mobile IM and mobile e-mail gateways created by OZ Mobile have handled over 10 billion transactions to date, the Montreal company announced today.
Adding to this milestone, the company also announced that it has shipped its 100 millionth preloaded client on mobile phones.
“We are seeing accelerated mobile messaging growth across all of our North American and European customers which has helped OZ to achieve this milestone. Over the past year messaging activity for our Mobile IM customers grew 220%, and mobile e-mail has seen a 350% growth in messages,” said Jim Knapik, president and CEO.
“With the recent launch of our Mobile Email Solution with Verizon Wireless, we have strengthened our market leadership in North America with mobile operator customers reaching more than 90% of the entire market. We are also working with eight of the leading mobile operators in Europe, bringing the total addressable mobile subscribers of our customers to over 600 million globally.”
Since the majority of mobile IM and mobile email conversations occur between mobile phones and PCs, mobile messaging is creating incremental new traffic for mobile operators, says the company’s press release. “Mobile operators have already been able to capitalize on this and generate hundreds of millions of dollars in additional revenue; thus significantly increasing subscriber ARPU,” it adds.
The OZ Mobile IM Solution and the OZ Mobile Email Solution were launched in 2004 and 2005 respectively.
Today, they’re available on hundreds of different mobile phone models with many of the world’s major mobile operators; allowing consumers to stay connected via services from AOL, MSN and Yahoo!, for example.
