CALGARY – Canadian Video iPodders will soon have shows to download and view.
Calgary-based MoboVivo Inc. will begin offering legal downloadable television shows for the Apple Video iPod next week. The ability to download to other mobile devices such as cell phones, PDAs, and the Sony PSP (PlayStation Portable) will be available later in the year.
The company has been tight-lipped so far about what shows it will have but the company has announced a deal with CHUM Television and MoboVivo CEO Trevor Doerksen said another national broadcaster (think public) has also signed on.
The company will soft launch with a few lifestyle programs first, he said, gradually ramping up with more content throughout the year. "Our target demo are the yoga moms," he said.
"With over 100,000 television episodes being downloaded daily from the iTunes Video Store in the USA, MoboVivo presents a huge opportunity for Canadian and international content providers to offer downloadable versions of their TV shows," added Doerksen.
Currently, Canadians are not able to buy TV shows – like Desperate Housewives and Lost – from the iTunes Video Store.
CHUM Television will provide educational content from it’s ACCESS television station in Alberta, and several independent TV producers have also signed on.
"Leveraging MoboVivo’s Rapid Repurposing Technology, producers and broadcasters are able to keep up to the trends in mobile entertainment by preparing and distributing television shows for current and future mobile devices," says the release. This year, MoboVivo projects significant mobile video sales in its key MoboVivo Channels – Education, Lifestyle and Entertainment.
"MoboVivo wants to help people feel smart. We want to help parents feel good about buying their kids an iPod with educational, lifestyle and entertainment TV shows from our partners," adds Doerksen. "The iPod is not just about music, with MoboVivo people can download TV shows that they will watch on the plane, on the subway or bus, or while waiting at their doctor’s office."
