VANCOUVER – Broadbandtv Corp. yesterday launched its national TV on demand service which is commercially available to any Canadian with a broadband Internet connection.
Broadbandtv delivers its video programming through Internet Protocol (IP) which means that customers do not need a connection to a cable company to enjoy the Broadbandtv service.
Customers need only a Broadbandtv player – “a sleek and stylish set-top box about the size of a DVD player that holds up to 200 hours of video storage, a broadband connection and the Broadbandtv service and they are on their way to downloading thousands of hours of free and pay per view content,” says the new company.
Customers use the Broadbandtv interactive guide to help them easily find programs that match their interest from the thousands of hours of programming available. The Broadbandtv Guide features on-screen search, full program descriptions, and video previews. Once a user finds a program they like, they just download the content to the Broadbandtv player for viewing.
Just like a PVR or VCR the box offers pause, fast forward, and rewind and a parental control option.
"Canadians in any city and province where broadband Internet connectivity is available can now take advantage of thousands of hours of programming they did not have access to before," said Shahrzad Rafati, president and CEO of Broadbandtv Corp., "All they need is a broadband connection, the Broadbandtv player and Broadbandtv service and they are set."
“Broadband TV’s programming includes short, independent & foreign films, news, conventional and extreme sports, health, music and music videos, movie trailers, language and cooking classes, travel, wine, history, cartoons, auto shows and much, much more… Basically any area of video programming you can imagine is represented. All for less than half a buck per day,” says the release.
It offers no current American or Canadian specialty services.
“Not only is Broadbandtv bringing this multi-lifestyle "fringe based" content to Canadians everywhere but it is also adding new content from around the world to take to audiences all over North America,” it continues. “Broadbandtv has the ability to enable virtually any provider of video content the opportunity to reach television sets of broadband subscribers anywhere in the U.S. and Canada.
