
OTTAWA – While almost a quarter of Anglophones report listening to music streaming services, podcasting continues to grow as a medium for listening to online audio content, says two new reports from Media Technology Monitor (MTM).
Podcasting – Don’t Call it a Comeback examines the demographic of English-language podcast listeners as well as the other audio content that they consume.
Highlights from the report include:
– Once thought to have plateaued, podcasting penetration has grown by more than 50% in the past three years;
– Half of podcast listeners use smartphones to listen to podcasts; and
– Podcast listeners tend to be bigger users of other forms online content like streaming, but still consume traditional AM/FM radio as well.
Music Streaming Services: Analysis of the English-Language Market looks at the plethora of music streaming services and the Anglophone Canadians who use them.
Highlights from that report are:
– Students and millennials (aged 18-34) are among the most likely to listen via streaming music services;
– Music streaming services are a part of daily life for their listeners, and many use more than one service; and
– 85% of music streaming service listeners use YouTube as a music streaming service, followed by Spotify (29%) and Google Play Music (24%).
