Canadian Academy announces three new board members

TORONTO — The Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television (the Canadian Academy) announced today the addition of three new members to its board of directors — Blue Ant International’s Solange Attwood (above, left), Thunderbird Entertainment Group’s Jennifer Twiner McCarron (centre) and Netflix Canada’s Lindsey Scully (right).

These new board members will serve until the Canadian Academy’s next annual general meeting in September 2022.

“The Canadian creative industry continues to grow, evolve, and change thanks to the zeal and passion of those within it, and I look forward to working alongside our new board members to continue the Canadian Academy’s growth and prosperity,” said John Young, Academy chair and CEO of Boat Rocker Media, in a press release.

Attwood is executive vice-president of Blue Ant Media’s global distribution group, Blue Ant International. Headquartered in Toronto with offices in Los Angeles, Miami and London, Blue Ant International’s catalogue includes 4,000 hours of content across various genres including specialist factual, factual entertainment, documentary, kids and family, and scripted, as well as one of the largest 4K natural history offerings globally, according to the release.

Since launching the division in 2014, “Attwood has grown Blue Ant International into a leading global distributor of high-quality content that engages audiences worldwide across multiple platforms,” the release says.

Attwood’s previous positions include vice-president of SI Entertainment and manager of international sales and acquisitions at Tricon Films and Television.

Twiner McCarron is an award-winning producer and has been the CEO of Thunderbird Entertainment Group since 2018. “She has led production on multiple critically-acclaimed titles, including Emmy-winning The Last Kids on Earth for Netflix, and was named the Equity and Inclusion Champion during BC Business’ 2021 ‘Women of the Year’ Awards,” the release says.

Twiner McCarron joined Thunderbird’s kids and family division, Atomic Cartoons, as head of production in 2011, and she was promoted to its CEO in 2016. “She continues to hold both roles, overseeing Thunderbird’s overall business as well as a team of more than 1,400 people across Vancouver, Toronto, Ottawa and Los Angeles,” the release says.

Scully is head of PR for Netflix Canada, where she works with media and stakeholders in the entertainment industry from across the country. “She is particularly passionate about working with partners to tell the stories of the diverse creators who are participating in Netflix-supported development programs,” the release says.

Scully previously worked on public affairs and communications campaigns for Airbnb in Canada, and also worked for several years in federal politics and government relations in Ottawa, including acting as director of policy and deputy chief of staff to a member of Cabinet.
