Canada’s cable games all set

MISSISSAUGA – While the Olympics and Commonwealth Games will be just finished by the end of March, the important games for Ontario cable techs will be just beginning: the 2006 SCTE Ontario Chapter Cable-Tec Games.

They will happen Thursday, March 30th, 2006 at the Mississauga Grand in Mississauga. The event will be held from 2:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and is open to all cable technicians in Ontario.

Chapter Cable-Tec Games provide an arena for contestants to compete in events that measure their technical abilities, such as cable splicing and meter reading and demonstrate their broadband knowledge in the Cable Jeopardy game.

Each year, first place winners of the local competitions are recognized for their achievements as they gather to compete on a national level during Cable-Tec Expo, which is in Denver this year in June. The National Cable-Tec Games feature the year’s local winners competing against each other at Cable-Tec Expo for the national gold, silver, and bronze awards in each category of cable splicing, meter reading, cable jeopardy and MTDR.

This will be the only Games event in Ontario this year, and the top 3 techs will again be eligible to attend the National SCTE Games. SCTE provides free CT Expo passes, and a $1,000 cash prize helps defray travel costs.

Also featured this year is a new team competition with an additional prize for the team with the best combined score. Teams must submit their four-person team name by March 1st.
