TORONTO – The Canada Media Fund announced Monday the appointment of Marcia Douglas as vice president of growth and inclusion and Janine Steele as director of interactive digital media.
Douglas, who will take on the new role on April 3, will lead the fund’s growth and inclusion strategy, according to a press release.
Douglas was previously the fund’s director of English content, international and export and was also the vice president of industry and business affairs at the Canadian Media Producers Association. She has more than 20 years of experience in the development and production of Canadian screen-based content for traditional and digital platforms and audiences, the release said.
Steele, who joins the fund on Monday, takes on the first such position at the organization. She will be tasked with developing the fund’s policy and programs “to ensure the CMF’s mandate is fulfilled in consistency with the distinctiveness of Canada’s [interactive digital media] market,” the release said.
Steele has previously held senior roles with Creative BC and with the National Film Board of Canada.
“These two roles are critical for the Canada Media Fund’s continued support of the industry we serve, and our ability to reach more communities and creators,” Valerie Creighton, president and CEO of the CMF, said in the release.
“Marcia has played a key role in our organization since joining last year, and I know she will have a long-lasting impact as she leverages her expertise to realize our growth and inclusion strategy. Janine’s experience will be essential in shaping our increasingly larger role with interactive digital media communities while ensuring we have a strong presence on the west coast, and with her help we’ll continue to find unique and exciting opportunities to serve the IDM industry. I’m excited to welcome them both on board,” Creighton added.
