Campus-wide wireless in Windsor

WINDSOR – The University of Windsor’s Working Where You Work, its campus-wide wireless initiative, launched today.

The university is one of the first in Canada to offer Internet access across its entire campus through the use of a series of wireless access points in buildings across campus. Users can log on wirelessly from any location on campus provided they have a University of Windsor password and ID.

"It adds a whole new dimension to our campus, one that responds directly to the learning styles of a new generation of students" said university president Ross Paul, in a release. "It is another important step forward in building the strongest possible learning-centred environment at Windsor."

Bell Canada was selected by the University to lead this end-to-end wireless network implementation. Bell worked in partnership with Aruba Networks Inc. to deploy a reliable and self-maintaining wireless infrastructure across the campus. The company installed cable and access points before the start of the school year, allowing students wireless access from their dorm rooms beginning in September, 2005. Final access points have recently been completed.
