SAN FRANCISCO, CA – CableLabs has opened a new office in San Francisco to give it a deeper presence in a community renowned for its technology innovation and contributions to the evolving Internet ecosystem.
Serving as a base of operations for specific engagements aligned with IP communications and broadband application technologies, the new office will invite collaboration between the global industry technology research consortium and participants in the Bay Area technology, academic and investment communities.
It will also help to advance the mission of CableLabs and its member companies to shape the future of television and communications, with particular emphasis on software platforms that are expanding the range of capability enabled by cable communications systems.
“As cable services evolve from those based on traditional cable specific technologies to those that are open and software based, the cable industry has increasing synergy with innovation initiatives that are not traditionally associated with cable, including Internet applications such as social networking, gaming and more,” said Glenn Britt, chair of the CableLabs board of directors as well as chairman and CEO of Time Warner Cable, in the announcement. “The new CableLabs San Francisco office will enhance the cable industry’s position in an epicenter for technology innovation and is expected to facilitate the development of new partnerships that lead to the cultivation of new technologies.”
