CABLE SHOW 2012: Netflix traffic share has peaked, could drop next year

BOSTON – Popular streaming service Netflix has hit its peak as other video services gain traction, according to Sandvine’s chief technology officer Don Bowman. Speaking Tuesday at panel discussion on business intelligence at The Cable Show, Bowman quoted data from the Canadian company’s most recent global Internet traffic report which found that Netflix is facing increased competition from the likes of Hulu, Amazon Prime and MSO-branded streaming services in the U.S.  Netflix currently represents 33% of peak downstream traffic on U.S. cable networks, but Bowman projected a declining percentage as early as next year.
