TORONTO – CTV announced on Monday that Canadian model/actress Pamela Anderson will host the 2006 Juno Awards.
CTV and the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) also confirmed that the 2006 JUNO Awards will be broadcast on Sunday, April 2 from 7 to 9 p.m. ET.
Anderson, whose generous talents are always front and centre, made her name as one of the original Baywatch lifeguards and has gone on to star in TV and film roles since – not to mention several Playboy magazine layouts.
Lately, she has turned her attention to animal rights as a member of PETA and has been a constant critic of Kentucky Fried Chicken, for example. She says they treat their finger-lickin’ good chickens cruelly, before they boil them in oil for people to tear apart and eat.
Anderson joins an esteemed list of homegrown, international stars who have hosted The JUNO Awards since CTV began airing the awards telecast in 2002, including Barenaked Ladies, Shania Twain and Alanis Morissette, says the press release.
"Canadian music rocks," said Anderson in the release. "No matter where I am in the world I can listen to Canadian music and feel like I’m at home. This is going to be one kick-ass awards show."
She will host a two-hour awards broadcast that will feature performances by Bedouin Soundclash, Broken Social Scene, 2006 Canadian Music Hall of Fame inductee Bryan Adams, Coldplay, Michael Bublé and Nickelback. Additional performers will be announced soon.
"She’s famous around the world, but Pamela will feel right at home in Halifax," added Susanne Boyce, CTV’s president of programming and chair of the CTV Media Group. "She can expect a hearty east coast welcome for what promises to be a spectacular awards broadcast."
