BritBox reaches a million subscribers in North America

NEW YORK — BritBox, the subscription streaming service from BBC Studios and ITV in North America, announced Wednesday it has achieved one million subscribers, doubling the BritBox community in Canada and the United States since last January.

“This is an incredible milestone for our nimble team at BritBox,” said Soumya Sriraman, CEO and president of BritBox, in the news release. “Our content mix of known, now and new British TV shows is a potent concoction of programming which remains unbeatable.”

“It’s great to see BritBox reach its landmark one millionth subscriber in North America. Subscribers really value and love the unique and unrivalled British TV content we offer. To achieve profitability in less than three years is also a fantastic achievement and is a boost to our international expansion plan,” added Carolyn McCall, chief executive of ITV.

According to the news release, BritBox’s targeted audience focus on women 45 years and older, and its low, single-digit churn rate, has contributed to the success and rapid growth of the streaming service.

Since BritBox’s Canadian launch on February 14, 2018, the streaming service has become the exclusive home for a range of original dramas, comedies, lifestyle and news programming. From dramas such as Vera, starring multi award-winning actress Brenda Blethyn (Pride and Prejudice, Saving Grace, Secrets & Lies), and The Victim, starring Golden Globe and Emmy nominee Kelly Macdonald (Boardwalk Empire), to the hysterical comedy Hold the Sunset with John Cleese (Fawlty Towers), along with lifestyle event RHS Chelsea Flower Show, the BritBox collection represents British television for all anglophiles, says the news release.

The channel recently announced a new commission, Sister Boniface, a spinoff of Father Brown, created by Jude Tindall (Father Brown) and the co-commission with BBC of a second season of the Shaun Pye-helmed cathartic comedy There She Goes, starring David Tennant and Jessica Hynes.

BritBox is available for $8.99 per month, after a seven-day free trial period, on Roku, Apple TV (4th gen), AirPlay, Chromecast, and all iOS and Android devices, and online at www.britbox.com/ca. BritBox is also available on Amazon Channels for Prime members and on Apple TV Channels on supported devices.
