Brad Phillips retiring from Corus Audio

TORONTO – Corus announced Tuesday that its senior vice president of audio is retiring next month.

Brad Phillips had only taken on the newly created role in March last year.

Phillips has over 30 years of radio and television broadcast management experience and was a finalist in Billboard magazine’s talent of the year competition.

“To say Brad Phillips is an industry legend is an understatement,” said a Corus statement. “From his first on-air radio gig as a teenager in Red Deer, Alberta, managing and programming #1 radio stations in Canada’s largest English markets, to overseeing television stations, most notably introducing the City TV brand to the west coast, Brad has helped shape the music we hear and the TV programing we see,” the statement added.

According to his LinkedIn page, Phillips has been with Corus for nearly 11 years, starting in November 2012 as manager of Corus’s radio stations in Vancouver. He became vice president of Corus Radio West in April 2016, where he managed radio stations in Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton and Winnipeg. He then became vice president and head of FM Radio in February 2018 for the last five-and-a-half years.

Before his time at Corus, he became vice president of B.C. operations with Bell in February 2008, where he managed Vancouver radio stations for Astral and B.C. broadcast properties.

Prior to that he was vice president and general manager in Toronto for CHUM Radio starting in September 1996, where he managed 104.5 CHUM-FM and 1050 CHUM.

Between 1987 and 1990 he was program director for Moffat Communications.

“The true mark of a great career is not just winning at the highest levels, but winning the respect of colleagues and competitors while doing something you love,” said Troy Reeb, executive vice president of Broadcast Networks at Corus. “I want to thank Brad for his tremendous contributions to Corus, and to the broader industry which he will no doubt continue to support in his next chapter.”
