TORONTO – CTV president Rick Brace was named chairman of Grey Cup 2007 on Thursday.
"As planning for Grey Cup ’07 continues, it is very exciting to have someone with the outstanding qualifications of our chairman, Rick Brace, at the helm leading an advisory board comprised of top business leaders in the Toronto area," said Brad Watters, General Manager, Grey Cup 2007. Next year’s Grey Cup is being held in Toronto.
"I am extremely pleased and honoured to be named the chairman of Grey Cup 2007. The CFL is a Canadian institution and the Grey Cup is a celebration that we all look forward to each and every year. With the backing of the Toronto Argonauts’ ownership group, the City of Toronto, Toronto Tourism, our sponsors and the work of a talented committee, we are determined to deliver the best Grey Cup ever in 2007," said Brace in the press release.
Brace has long been associated with sports, getting his start as a TV sports producer and working his way up the ladder at TSN and its former parent company Netstar. Brace came over to CTV when the broadcaster purchased Netstar. He and Argos president Keith Pelley, a long-time TSN staffer and executive, share a lengthy work history.
Brace announced the theme of Grey Cup 2007 as Over The Top In Toronto and unveiled the festival logo. Created by Vancouver’s Barnstorm Creative Group, the Over The Top logo mirrors the colour scheme and feel of the Grey Cup logo. It encapsulates the overall theme of the festival, combining the trophies of both major football championships, the Grey Cup and the Vanier Cup, as well as the look and feel of the city of Toronto.
The 2007 Grey Cup in Toronto will begin with a four day festival encompassing over 50 events at great venues including the Metro Toronto Convention Centre and the CN Tower. Complete with street closures, entertainment and activities such as the Bremner Streetfest and the Bay Street Gridiron Tournament, there will be something for everyone. The line-up of additional performers will be announced at a major launch event early in 2007.
