– OTTAWA – While different generations use and adopt technologies in different ways, both Boomers and Millennials are avid users of the Internet and wireless, according to two new studies from Media Technology Monitor.
The studies examined the media technology adoption and use of Boomers (aged 47 – 67 years) and Millennials (18 to 33 year olds). While the younger tech savvy generation often act as the early adopters, the older more affluent generations can push pricey technologies in to the mainstream.
Profile of Boomers’ media technology adoption and use:
– Younger Boomers are among the highest income earners, giving them more disposable income to spend on media technology;
– Traditional TV and radio still rule across Young and Older Boomers; they’re spending more hours a week watching TV on a set and listening to radio from a traditional receiver than Anglophones and Francophones in general;
– Younger Boomers are embracing tablets, over one-third own a tablet with the majority of those being the iPad.
Profile of Millennials’ media technology adoption and use:
– Millennials embrace online activities, spending what would amount to more than a full day a week online;
– Social networking among Millennials in nearly ubiquitous; 3 in 5 are connecting to social networks on their smartphones;
– Millennials are avid multi-taskers, 85% go online and watch TV at the same time.
