TORONTO – Production company Boat Rocker Media is consolidating its factual and unscripted projects under a new division called Crooked Horse Productions.
Crooked Horse is a creative-first full-service content company with offices in Toronto, New York and Los Angeles. It will be helmed by vice-president David Lerech, reporting into Boat Rocker Studios co-presidents and Boat Rocker Media co-executive chairmen David Fortier and Ivan Schneeberg.
The move also sees Boat Rocker increase its direct investment into original content, with the greenlight of two original unscripted/factual shows. The first, Late Nite Eats, is produced by Crooked Horse Productions in partnership with Cooking Channel in the U.S., and began production at the end of May. The second, History In The Making, is a Boat Rocker original that commenced production in April. Both series are being distributed globally by Boat Rocker Rights.
“Crooked Horse is a factual production company re-imagined for the new and ever-changing media landscape, with a unique vision for creating popular and innovative content across all platforms,” said Fortier and Schneeberg, in a joint statement. “We are excited for our incredible creative team to expand on the current production slate, leveraging enhanced self-financing strategies and co-financing partnerships with global broadcasters.”
Boat Rocker added that it plans to expand this strategy across other content divisions, such as Temple Street (drama) and Radical Sheep (kids and family as well as animation).
