BNN makes the markets funny; joins Bell Mobile TV lineup

TORONTO – Not many TV viewers would associate comedy with the Business News Network (BNN).

But that could change starting October 7 when the CTV-owned channel debuts a new original Canadian series called Stock & Awe.  The first financial news program of its kind in the world, the half-hour scripted comedy follows the ascent of real-life business reporter, Hilary Doyle, from in debt to in charge.

Billed as Markets 101 with attitude, the series is a primer for viewers who want to better understand the complicated world of finance, without sacrificing laughs while they learn.

“We wanted a program that introduced new investors to the markets in a completely new and original way,” said Jack Fleischmann, BNN’s GM and executive producer of the show, in the announcement. “Hilary is the perfect chaperone for Stock & Awe. Obviously smart, terrifically talented, and totally engaging, she helps make a potentially intimidating subject accessible and even funny.”

In other news, the channel is now available live to Bell customers’ mobile devices after being added to the Bell Mobile TV lineup.

"Bell is making doing business better” said Wade Oosterman, president of Bell Mobility and chief brand officer for Bell, in a statement. “BNN is a trusted source of news for financial professionals who need stay in the know and Bell Mobility will give them live access to the best business channel 24/7."

BNN is included as part of Bell Mobile TV, which is available to Bell Mobility clients for $8 per month plus applicable data charges.
