BNN Bloomberg’s Paul Bagnell retiring

Bell Media last week announced the upcoming retirement of long-time BNN Bloomberg anchor and reporter Paul Bagnell.

The veteran journalist’s final broadcast will be Friday, July 18, marking the end of a 40-year journalism career that included 24 years with BNN Bloomberg.

“Anchoring and reporting at BNN Bloomberg has been the highlight of my 40-year career in journalism. As a young reporter eager to tell important stories to a big audience, I never dreamed that one day I would anchor daily broadcasts relaying the day’s most important economic and market news,” Bagnell said in a statement.

“Along the way, I have been able to speak to many of the country’s top business leaders, and some of the smartest people on Bay Street. And I’ve loved hearing from BNN Bloomberg viewers, an audience that is keen to learn more every day. It’s been great, and I will miss it. At the same time, I know BNN Bloomberg is in very good hands, with strong leadership and talented journalists ready to step up and take on larger roles. I’ll be watching from home,” Bagnell said.

“Paul has been a trusted voice for Canadian viewers, sharing with them the biggest business news stories happening in this country for decades, and over the next few weeks we will look back at his incredible contributions and celebrate his great career,” said Richard Gray, vice president of news at Bell Media. “Paul has always maintained an exemplary commitment to serving our viewers, and his skill as an anchor and reporter will be greatly missed in our newsroom. We are grateful for all of his contributions to BNN Bloomberg, and wish him a very fulfilling retirement.”

Bagnell joined BNN Bloomberg in 2001 (when it was called Report on Business Television) and has been the business news network’s reporter on landmark court rulings such as the Livent fraud trial, the Nortel Networks fraud trial, and the BCE bondholders case at the Supreme Court of Canada.

Prior to joining BNN Bloomberg, Bagnell was a business reporter at the Financial Post for five years, following stints as Ottawa and Washington bureau correspondent for Thomson Newspapers.
