Blue Ant Studios to remake Israeli drama The First Family

TEL AVIV, Israel — Global content creation and distribution company ADD Content announced today it has signed a scripted format development deal with Blue Ant Studios for a North American remake of the Israeli series The First Family, which was originally commissioned and aired by Israel’s HOT network.

The First Family is “a gripping family drama…that explores the household and personal relations surrounding the country’s most prominent politician,” reads a press release.

ADD Content and Blue Ant Studios will co-develop and co-produce a local version of the original Israeli series, which was co-created by Shachar Magan (Possessions) and Noa Rotman, granddaughter of former Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin. The original series was produced by Koda Communications for HOT.

“What happens when a fractured family already tearing at the seams is thrown into the highest profile position in the country? The First Family is a family drama series that follows the lives of the most prominent family in the country — the Prime Minister’s family — as they face leaving their comfortable life and moving into a heavily guarded house with a whole new world of pressures and scrutiny,” the release says.

Each member of the Prime Minister’s family, including his wife, daughter and son, “now must cope with being under the spotlight and the expectations of playing roles they’re dramatically ill-equipped to play,” the release adds.

“Inspired by real experiences, the show follows how their individual lives change and how the position of being the country’s most prominent politician starts to influence every bit of their well-being — both physically and mentally — as personal and national interests become entangled.”

“We’re excited to be working with ADD Content and HOT to adapt this wonderful property,” said Eva Miller, vice-president of scripted development at Blue Ant Studios, in the press release. “The First Family comes with all the juicy inter-family politics that make for great drama, while also offering a chance to explore class and the complicated relationship between private and public identities that resonates so deeply with today’s society.”

Hadas Mozes Lichtenstein, founder and head of international at ADD Content, said: “With familial dramas enjoying international popularity, The First Family is ripe for a local reimagining. We have incredibly creative and talented partners in Blue Ant Studios who share our ambitions for this dynamic, intensely gripping show.”

The deal with Blue Ant Studios continues ADD Content’s reputation for bringing Israeli drama to the international stage, the press release says. ADD Content’s previous scripted format deals include selling Euphoria to HBO for a remake starring Zendaya, which has recently been greenlit for a third season.
