Blue Ant greenlights three new series for Canadian channels

TORONTO — Blue Ant Media today announced three new greenlights and one series renewal that will air across its Canadian specialty TV platforms Cottage Life, T+E and Love Nature.

The lineup of original series includes a mix of world broadcast and Canadian premieres, with all four series available for licensing globally by Blue Ant International, explains a press release.

“Blue Ant’s focus has always been on collaborating with leading Canadian and global production partners to build a strong programming slate spanning multiple genres to meet audience demand,” said Sam Linton, vice-president and head of original content, Canadian media, at Blue Ant Media, in the release.

“Our latest slate includes a mix of adorable wildlife, mysterious discoveries and paranormal phenomena. We know this dynamic portfolio has great global appeal and will work well for both our Blue Ant channels and our international distribution pipeline.”

Love Nature has commissioned Cub Camp (above), a six-part documentary series that follows orphaned cubs at Black Bear Rescue Manitoba. Produced by Winnipeg-based Merit Motion Pictures, the docuseries “offers audiences the unique opportunity to follow adorable orphaned black bear cubs, from the moment they’re rescued to the day they’re released into the wild,” the release reads.

Filming on Cub Camp is scheduled to begin in spring/summer 2023, according to the release. The series is slated to air in Canada on Love Nature and to roll out worldwide on Love Nature’s linear and streaming platforms.

The second greenlight announced is American Doomsday (working title), which is slated to have its Canadian broadcast premiere on Cottage Life in spring 2023. Produced by Wales-based Wildflame Productions and Saloon Media, a Blue Ant Media company, this three-part documentary series “examines Mother Nature’s sheer power of destruction in an in-depth analysis on weather phenomena and natural forces and its effects on humans and the geology of our planet,” the release says.

Cottage Life has renewed its original investigative series Mysteries from Above for a second season, which is scheduled to have its world broadcast premiere on the channel in summer 2023. The new season of eight episodes is being produced by Saloon Media.

“The series explores remote, hard-to-reach locations as drones explore strange geological occurrences, unique man-made structures, curious creatures and lost civilizations, revealing fascinating insights and never-before-seen footage to the viewers,” says a synopsis in the release.

The third new series greenlighted is Haunted Lost and Found (working title), which is scheduled for a spring 2023 world broadcast premiere on Blue Ant’s paranormal channel T+E. The six-part series is a treaty co-production between Singapore-based production companies Beach House Pictures (a Blue Ant Media company) and Momo Film Co. and Vancouver-based De Vries Productions.

“The new six-part series features first-hand accounts from unlucky individuals who purchased, found or were gifted an item, only to discover their newfound possessions were haunted or cursed. Each episode features three mysterious and chilling stories, ranging from items found on the dark web to those discovered in dark alleys,” the release says.
