TORONTO – Blue Ant Media announced today from the Canadian Media Producers Association’s Prime Time event, it has greenlit two new original productions and ordered four renewals for its Canadian channels Cottage Life, T+E, and Love Nature that are to debut in 2022 and 2023.
“The new additions reinforce Blue Ant’s commitment to create compelling, diverse and scalable series that offer a unique voice and perspective,” a press release explains.
One of the new greenlights is season one of Mission: Unexplained, which will have its Canadian broadcast premiere on T+E in springe 2023. Mission: Unexplained is an eight-part docuseries that “follows military veterans as they share the terrifying, unexplained events they witnessed on the front lines,” the press release says.
“The greenlight is part of the Blue Ant Media and Content Catalyst Fund (CCF) joint venture that backs women-led creatives in unscripted content, from development to production and distribution, for the Canadian and global marketplaces.”
Marking Cottage Life’s 35th anniversary this year, Blue Ant also greenlit a new documentary special, Loons: A Cry from the Mist, “which chronicles a year in the life of the common loon,” the press release says. “The beloved Canadian bird, synonymous with cottage country, has been the long-standing icon for the Cottage Life brand.” Produced by Yam Films, Loons: A Cry from the Mist is scheduled to have its world broadcast premiere in fall 2022.
Returning series include Dr. Savannah: Wild Rose Vet (season two, on Cottage Life), Eli Roth Presents: A Ghost Ruined My Life (pictured above, season two, Canadian broadcast premiere, on T+E), Haunted Hospitals (season four, Canadian broadcast premiere, on T+E) and Battle of the Alphas (season 2, Canadian broadcast premiere, on Love Nature).
“Blue Ant’s new greenlights and renewals are exciting additions to our ever-growing portfolio of premium, scalable series that showcase remarkable storytelling across multiple genres,” said Sam Linton, vice-president, head of original content, Canadian media at Blue Ant, in the press release.
“We’re proud to collaborate with our esteemed production partners to bring to life this dynamic range of original programming that serves to entertain and inspire Canadian audiences.”
Blue Ant also announced at Prime Time two current projects it has in development for its Canadian broadcast channels, with the potential for licensing to other companies through Blue Ant International.
“The projects, Haunted Goldrush (working title) and Expedition Great White, are unscripted, original documentaries that span the paranormal, wildlife and nature genres,” the press release says.
Haunted Goldrush is executive produced by Sean De Vries and “follows paranormal investigators Corine Carey, Leanne Sallenback and Kelly Ireland as they make their way up British Columbia’s historic & mysterious Gold Rush Trail. The route which runs through the famed Fraser Canyon up to the gold rush town of Barkerville was a bustling, wild and often violent place in the 1800s. But as soon as the gold was gone, so were the people. However, many locals believe some never left,” a description in the press release reads.
Expedition Great White is produced by Edward Peill, Tell Tale Productions (The Curse of Oak Island) and Ken MacDonald, former vice-president and general manager for Discovery Channel in Canada. It “examines the dramatic rise of great white sharks spotted in Nova Scotia waters during the fall and summer months,” the release says.
Both projects are overseen by Linton and “underpin Blue Ant Media’s commitment to work with regional producers across Canada and invest in high-quality, distinctive programming that resonate with audiences coast to coast.”
