WATERLOO, ON – BlackBerry launched new security software today for iOS and Android devices that enables users to keep their work-related and personal apps and data on their smartphones separate and secure.
Secure Work Space for iOS and Android is a new option with BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10 (version 10.1.1) aimed at corporate users with a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) policy for employees.
The software provides iOS or Android device users with integrated email (with attachment viewing), calendar and contacts for productivity, as well as secure browser access to intranets and document editing capabilities with BlackBerry’s Documents To Go. The user’s corporate apps and data are separated and controlled within the Secure Work Space container.
On the administrative end, Secure Work Space operates independent of any VPN infrastructures and can provide mobile device access to data and apps that reside behind a company’s corporate firewalls.
BlackBerry enterprise clients can license Secure Work Space for $99 per year per device. The company is also offering a 60-day free trial BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10 bundle that includes 50 EMM client access licenses (providing device management for BlackBerry 10, iOS, and Android devices) and 50 Secure Work Space CALs. The free trial can be downloaded here.
The company’s expansion into support services for iOS and Android devices is in keeping with growing adoption of BYOD by businesses. According to Forrester Research, Inc., in 2016, 350 million employees will use smartphones and 200 million will bring their own devices to the workplace.
BlackBerry said it is also working with app partners such as Box to power business collaboration in the cloud.
