CALGARY – Shaw Communications’ Big Pipe division announced today the Calgary Board of Education (CBE) has chosen it to provide them with high-speed data services.
After a formal bid process, Big Pipe was contracted to provide Transparent LAN Service (TLS) between the CBE’s data centres, to facilitate high-availability bandwidth for business continuity.
"The CBE has growing data needs," said Cindy Seibel, director, information and technology services, at the CBE. "We needed a bandwidth provider to supply an innovative, custom solution for our particular network challenges, and Big Pipe delivered."
The CBE currently supports close to 100,000 students and has over 8,500 employees spread over 215 schools and 12 administrative sites. Between 2005 and 2008, the City of Calgary’s population is expected to increase by 80,000 people and thus place even more demands on the CBE, says the press release. TLS service from Big Pipe is based on an innovative network design that provides additional bandwidth as well as advanced route diversity.
"The CBE does a superior job of educating our children," said Greg MacLean, vice-president and general manager of Big Pipe. "We are proud to help support children’s learning and development in Calgary, by providing network service to the CBE."
