TORONTO – New timeslots, new sets, a new logo – viewers will notice a change when they tune into Global Television and Global News next week.
On Monday, Global News will herald the changes with the move of Global National with Kevin Newman to a consistent national 5:30 p.m. slot (6:30 p.m. in the Maritimes, darn time zones), partnered with re-branded Early News, News Hour and News Final local coverage in all markets.
“With an approach to news and information programming that combines a unique, award-winning blend of context, immediacy and relevance,” says the release, not to mention being the earliest national newscast, the Global News national and local news teams are focused on maintaining and building audience loyalty.
Notably, both Global National with Kevin Newman and News Hour with Leslie Roberts in Toronto “represent the country’s fastest-growing, second-most-watched newscasts in the national and key Ontario markets respectively,” says the release, “while in BC, News Hour with Tony Parsons ranks as the #1 newscast in the province.”
"Our aim at Global News is to grow with audiences long term – building a destination for our viewers where news is understood like nowhere else," said Steve Wyatt, senior vice-president of news and information for Global Television. "Our ability to offer Canadians this level of back-to-back national and local news programming is a combination that will be difficult to beat."
The high-profile Global News initiative is part of a Global brand strategy that will situate the network as the premiere Canadian source for news and entertainment programming. The new brand positioning will include a re-imagined visual identity, logo, advertising and on-air presentation.
The network’s new attitude and promise to viewers will be unveiled on February 5th, 2006 – Super Bowl Sunday – beginning with sign on at 6 a.m. ET.
