BEV HD on tour

TORONTO – It’s an open secret in the TV industry that too many people are bringing home a brand new high definition television set but are not getting HDTV.

What they’re missing is an HD receiver from a Canadian cable or satellite provider. To close this gap – and sell some Bell ExpressVu receivers, the DTH company is kicking off The Full HD Experience Tour in Toronto today

"The countdown to Full HD has begun and Bell ExpressVu is on a mission to show and tell Canadians the truth about HD," shouts a Bell press release.

Tomorrow morning on Queen’s Quay in Toronto consumer technology expert Shannon Bentley will be on hand to talk about the technology and services that are essential for the Full HD experience, but what will really turn heads will be the Hollywood stunt team and their antics.

And perhaps Bell will launch the ViP722 receiver its technology partner Dish Network just launched this week, Stateside. That new receiver features expansive storage capacity (500 GB hard drive) and the option of recording 55 hours of HD programming in MPEG-4, 350 hours of SD programming, and more than 100 hours of movies and shows – for a total of up to 500 hours of programming. The receiver supports Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound, and along with the ViP622 is the only DVR in the industry with a true 30-second skip feature – allowing subscribers to watch television commercial-free. It also includes an IP call-back feature ideal for customers who don’t have a phone line, but still want the ability to order Pay-Per-View programming, among other new functions.

But we really don’t know if or when Bell will bring that receiver to market here, but it sounds like an uber-cool box.
