QUEBEC CITY – Unifor members will demand Bell Canada end the erosion of good jobs at a rally in front of the company’s offices in the provincial capital on Tuesday.
The union’s press release says “employees of Bell Canada and Bell subsidiaries have long campaigned against contracting out and other forms of job erosion. These efforts recently led to the company reversing a layoff notice for 78 technicians, and won the removal of the infamous "Stacked Ranking" performance management system in the Bell Sales bargaining unit.”
According to the union website, bellrealtalk, “for decades, Bell Canada has taken advantage of employees’ hard work and loyalty. Bargaining unit work has been snatched away through non-union outsourcing, contracting out, and job erosion across Bell units. All the while, our employer has imposed working conditions that members say increase stress and affects their mental health.”
The march will begin at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, starting at 1000 Boulevard René-Lévesque E, leading to the rally at 12:45 pm, outside Bell Canada’s offices at 930 D'Aiguillon Street. Jerry Dias, Unifor national president and Renaud Gagne, Unifor Quebec director will speak.
