Bell TV tops 100 HD channels

MONTREAL – Bell TV has become the first television provider in the country to offer 100 high definition channels.

"Reaching 100 HD channels is a significant milestone that both enhances our lead in the industry and supports our strategic imperative to leverage our wireline momentum here at Bell”, Bell and BCE president and CEO George Cope said in an address to The Canadian Club in Montréal on Monday. “It’s another step on the journey to achieving our goal: For Bell to be recognized by customers as Canada’s leading communications company."

Bell TV announced earlier in the day that it will launch classic movie channel AMC in both standard definition and high definition starting November 11.

It also announced plans to add Family Channel On-line and Playhouse Disney On-line to the Bell TV On-line portal later this month. The on-demand, commercial free services will be included with the Bell TV Family 1 theme pack subscription at no additional cost, and will be accessible on any computer with high-speed Internet service within Canada.

Offering a combined average of approximately 160 hours per week, with 25% of the content refreshed weekly, Family On-Line and Playhouse Disney On-Line reflect the weekly content offering of Family and Playhouse Disney’s current subscription video-on-demand services and will offer similar functionality, enabling subscribers to rewind, play, pause and review title descriptions.
