TORONTO – Bell will soon offer a personalized and converged multiscreen service to its Fibe TV and Alt TV subscribers using Ericsson’s MediaFirst TV Platform.

The companies said Thursday that their new multi-year deal expands on their long-term relationship, which dates back to the 2010 launch of Bell’s Fibe TV service and deployment of Ericsson’s IPTV platform Mediaroom.

The MediaFirst TV Platform is a software-defined, media-optimized cloud-based TV platform that provides a converged multiscreen experience including Pay TV in-home, TV Everywhere and OTT services, and embraces all content sources and delivery networks.  When integrated with Mediaroom, MediaFirst delivers an agile, next generation TV platform with the necessary flexibility to easily incorporate third party apps.

“Our longstanding and successful relationship with Ericsson helped us deliver the innovative and exclusive new Fibe TV services that propelled Bell to the #1 in position in Canadian TV”, said Bell’s president of residential and small business Rizwan Jamal, in the news release.  “We look forward to taking the game-changing Fibe TV and Alt TV even further, enabling next generation services across a wider range of devices by leveraging the innovative IPTV technologies of Ericsson MediaFirst.”

“Demand for high quality, seamless and personalized TV services is at an all-time high”, added Ericsson’s head of media solutions Angel Ruiz.  “With this increased consumer demand, service providers need to find ways to drive agile transformation within their business and ensure they have access to the technology and solutions that will help reduce operational costs and increase new revenue opportunities.”
